Bodies and Barriers

Bodies & Barriers’ performance series uses playful means to reveal the perception of authority and its power structures. In different settings in public and closed spaces, the audience is brought into a situational, immersive experimental arrangement. The troupe’s strategy is only apparent over an extended period of time. Fictitious authoritarian structures are slowly imposed on the “test subjects” in an intentionally incomprehensible experiment. Bodies & Barriers uses non-violent methods that create a sense of exclusion and limitation, irritation and restriction of freedom. They expose structural systems of power and their inherent methods of repression. How willingly are these creeping curtailments accepted? How deep does the conditioning of regulations to which we are permanently exposed go? And how do individuals react in a collective dynamic?
